Story Quilts Send a muslin square to your favorite children's book authors. Ask them to sign the square and return it to you. Send a second square and ask them to have their illustrator sign a square as well. Ask your students to illustrate squares with something that reminds them of the stories from the authors you have corresponded with. Fabric pens are great to use, or permanent markers (if you do not plan on washing the quilt). Combine the squares from the class with the squares from the authors and illustrators into a pattern. Challenge the students to find the 'fatest' square possible with the number of squares available. You can also do the same project using construction paper. Simply use the paper instead of muslin, and glue instead of sewing! Read More

WRITTEN BY: TABITHA F. WARD This site contains lessons that meet the following National Standards for Visual Arts Education. Understanding the visual arts in "relation" to history and cultures. Making connections between visual arts and other disciplines. The lessons have been organized in a chronological or timeline approach to art history. The students will see how Art has changed through the years and learn about the artists of that period and culture. The sequential curriculum help students link art with the time and place in which it was created. The lesson plans include the concept, objective, vocabulary, materials, procedures and evaluation. May I suggest some music while you tour this site. Click here! Simply click on a time period for art lessons! Cave Art Egyptian Art Ancient Gre Read More
