The history of the Buck and Wing ( Buck Dance and Pigeon Wing ) or Buck dancing is a pre-tap dance routine and was done by Minstrel and Vaudeville performers in the mid nineteenth century portraying the African-American males, known as "Bucks." Originally the Pigeon Wing steps (foot shaking in the air) were a big part of this early folk dance but later seperated when variations began such as the shooting out of one leg making a "Wing." The term "buck" is traced to the West Indies where Africans used the words po' bockorau (Buccaneer), and later the French term Buccaneer. Votes:0 CIVIL WAR COTILLION FELLOW REENACTORS The First (Annual?) Cotillion was truly a memorable occasion. Fancy dress, uniforms, and proper etiquette were abundant (Most of the time!). The weather was perfect and I believe our Living History presentation to the public was well received. Besides all that, we had a wonderful time! SUNDAY, JULY 18, 1863 (1999) 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. Period music for dancing throughout the day was provided by The American Ragtime Ensemble . The laughter of children at play rang through the meadow and the clip-clop of Horse and Carriage was the icing on the cake. Votes:0 Learning the Viennese Waltz The waltz tempo is in 3/4 time, generally a pronounced bass note to indicate
the first beat, followed by two successive tones. For the musically challenged, picking up and maintaining the beat is very tough: initially
work with VERY pronounced beats. Pieces often transition from one tempo
to another; dancers must be listening to adjust their steps accordingly. Normal American waltzes are danced at a tempo of roughly 120 to 140 bpm: Viennese are faster, at 180 to 216 bpm. You heard correctly, that techno
from Rotterdam has nothing on Johann Strauss. At 180 bpm, thats one measure
to the second, three steps per second, a comfortable dancing pace. Up to
200 bpm and I find myself quickly winded. As a beginner, start with a nice
slow tempo as you work out the steps. T Read More Go to Site
