About EFNEP An independent study by the Produce for Better Health Foundation in 2002 found that EFNEP is by far the most effective federal program in increasing consumption of fruits and vegetables. Diets high in fruits and vegetables decrease the risk of cancer and lower blood pressure in some individuals. Cost-benefit analyses show that for every $1 invested in EFNEP, between $3.63 and $10.64 is saved in future health care costs.
